What constitutes Discrimination at Work?

Discrimination is treating someone differently from others. Illegal discrimination is when the reason for treating someone differently is not allowed, for example for the following reasons:

At Veritas Law we offer a free initial consultation and we also offer ‘No win – No fee’ for employees pursuing cases against their employers. Please contact us for more information.

Different types of Discrimination at Work

Direct discrimination

This is when an employer treats an employee differently for one of the reasons listed above. An example of this might be when a less qualified male is given a promotion over a more qualified female, because of the fact that they are a man.

Indirect discrimination

This is when someone is unfairly treated, not explicitly because of one of the rules above, but indirectly or as a consequence of them. An example might be giving a job to someone and requesting that they be clean-shaven. This would discriminate against some religious groups where the wearing of facial hair is an integral part of their religion.
